I checked YaoiFest's website and don't see any details there but maybe I'm not looking in the correct place. This is not the actual convention, which takes place June 26-27, 2010 in Calgary, AB.

YAOI NEWS: Handley Sentencing Postponed

If you remember correctly from my many prior posts regarding this case, Christopher Handley is the man in Iowa convicted of possessing manga drawings of children being sexually abused. How does this pertain to us and yaoi? The manga were shipped from Japan and although it appears the content was of young girls, this same issue could be applied to any yaoi featuring young characters so it's a big deal for us. Anyway, he plead guilty and we have been anxiously awaiting his sentencing since he's facing some potentially heavy jail time.  Unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps), his sentencing has been postponed for now while the defense and prosecution do some further discussion about an agreed upon sentence. There is much more detail over at ANN where I heard about the sentence postponement.   

PUBLISHER NEWS: Go! Comi Gives Status Update

Go! Comi isn't a huge publisher of yaoi so you may or may not have heard the 'rumblings' about the publisher facing economic troubles.  Like many, they have stayed pretty silent on the matter until a few days ago. Since many publishers choose to stay silent or not update their websites, it is always hard to speculate until we hear at least a little something directly from the publisher themselves.

YAOI NEWS: Yaoi Censored in Australia?

In 2010 the Australian Government proposes to go ahead with a mandatory ISP-level internet filtering scheme which, if passed into law, could have a massive impact on anime, manga and slash fans. Why manga and slash fans? Because the main target of the law is to prevent the circulation of ‘child abuse sexual imagery’ – BUT in Australia ‘child abuse sexual imagery’ covers even FICTIONAL representations and includes ‘under age’ characters in anime, manga and slash. If the law is passed, any fan site that contains or links to this material could be added to a government ‘blacklist’ and access denied in Australia.
