YAOI NEWS: Yaoi Censored in Australia?
In 2010 the Australian Government proposes to go ahead with a mandatory ISP-level internet filtering scheme which, if passed into law, could have a massive impact on anime, manga and slash fans. Why manga and slash fans? Because the main target of the law is to prevent the circulation of ‘child abuse sexual imagery’ – BUT in Australia ‘child abuse sexual imagery’ covers even FICTIONAL representations and includes ‘under age’ characters in anime, manga and slash. If the law is passed, any fan site that contains or links to this material could be added to a government ‘blacklist’ and access denied in Australia.

Yeah, I heard of this. I’m also a part of the Lolita fashion subculture, and I’m sure they’d be filtering that out too due to the name. It really sucks that they’d do something like that, I mean, Jesus, it’s the 21st century. I know they’ve censored video games as well. It’s just scary, imo. Censorship is not okay. Pretty glad I left that crazy country.

Geez! That’s just nasty. They’re really going for the fictional text/drawn stuff.
I wonder how it will work in practice, though. They won’t be able to block every single thing, or there’s going to be riots!

Yes, it does seem that they are purposefully going for fictional representations. It’s clear from the way the US law is written that the “representations” clause is meant as a catch for any would-be child pornographers thinking they could make images of real chuldren look like drawings.
Something like this law, I hope, would never fly in the US. Americans like their first amendment rights and they certainly don’t want the government telling them what websites they are allowed to access.

It may be 2011 but they could still go through with it! Shit… that’s not good. Nearly all the yaoi fans are underage so this is just kuso, shit, pathetic and to the government: kusokurae!
