YAOI NEWS: New AarinFantasy Fansubs
AarinFantasy has confirmed they will be fansubbing both Betrayal Knows My Name and Sex Pistols:
We will be fansubbing Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru (also known as UraBoku) this coming April 2010.
For more info, please visit their official website at: http://uraboku.jp/index.htmlAs for Sex Pistols OVA1, we will fansub it too… the DVD is out but we need some time for translations and getting the video. Will announce the release here when the English subbed version is out. So stay tuned!

I’m curious. Why are you against scanlations and won’t read them even if you buy the manga, yet advocate fansubs and announce them here?
Aarinfantasy’s policy confuses me as well. They don’t allow distribution of licensed manga titles, yet they continue to distribute all those licensed anime titles. Doesn’t the fact that MediaBlasters had to lay off all those people make them wonder if they’re adding to the problem?
It seems to me that fansubbed anime distribution would do more harm than scanlation distribution, because people simply want to own print copies of books, plus the book are much cheaper so more fans would buy what they already had read for free. But DVDs are expensive, so if they’re readily available for download even when they’re licensed, there’s going to be more of a loss.

I’m fully aware that I’m a hypocrite when it comes to yaoi anime and I don’t really have a great answer for you. I guess because having gone to school for animation I know just how expensive it is to make and that yaoi anime in general doesn’t earn a lot. With that in mind, I know that the yaoi anime industry is never going to be booming or even remotely big over here. I guess I choose to pick my battles when it comes to scanlations or subbing and I chose to support publishers over the minuscule amount of companies who try to distribute yaoi anime here. I still promote yaoi anime legitimately when I know it’s being sold.
Not a great answer but it is a true answer.

Yeah, I’ll be putting up a new post regarding that. Just haven’t had the time to update much recently.
