Yokai’s Hunger – Naono Bohra – Manga Review

I love this book. I laughed hysterically the first time I read it months ago and I still laughed reading it again for this review. I think this is going to go down as one of my all time favorites. Not only is it funny, it’s incredibly sexy and the storyline is very interesting.

Yokai’s Hunger is primarily about the reunion of Norito Ogami and Koma. Norito was known as Oshu in a past life and was tied to Koma by a scar on his chest made of Koma’s blood. The scar is an oath Koma made to always protect Norito since Norito saved him. This scar makes Norito invisible to any demons around him but this has an unfortunate side effect. The demons can smell the blood of the yokai on him so they attack anyone near Norito trying to find him. The reason they are reuniting is because Norito is human and each time he dies, he reincarnates and reunites with Koma. However, Koma was delayed in being able to reunite with Norito after the last reincarnation. Once the two find each other again, Norito starts to meet some of Koma’s brothers (there are nine in total and all are Yokai). He also learns of the war between the Yokai and the Gods, which plays out in the rest of the story.

The humor in this story is a major selling point. The yokai brothers as well as Koma and their chibi versions had me cackling nonstop. I also love the ongoing jokes the mangaka uses that make you laugh out loud as soon as you turn the page. Another selling point is the hot sex sprinkled throughout. You see, Koma must “feed” off of Norito to keep up his strength and by feed I mean they must have loads of hot steamy sex. Oh to be a yokai.

There are ample characters in this one with a good majority of the brothers making an appearance and they are all varied in personality and appearance. Akakagachi is one of my favorites. I love his flamboyant way of dressing and cool, calm demeanor. I also really enjoyed the fact that Norito is an 18-year-old student and Koma has the appearance of a middle aged man yet he’s the blushing uke while Norito is the seme. I think this factor made the sex scenes even hotter. It also doesn’t hurt that Norito is smokin’ hot. Yum!

As I said earlier, this one is going down as one of my absolute favorites. Any manga that is this funny, sexy and interesting is a definite recommendation in my book. If you don’t have it already, go get a copy. You won’t be disappointed.
